Local Activities & Things to Do Nearby

Vista is one of those North County San Diego towns that surprises people. Most visitors think of it as a quick stop on the way to Legoland, but locals know it as a craft beer capital, a growing food scene, and a genuinely fun place to spend a day (or a week). Here's what to do during your stay at Elevado Hills Resort.
πΊ Vista's Legendary Craft Brewery Scene
Vista has earned the nickname "the brewery capital of North County" β and it's not hyperbole. There are over 20 craft breweries packed into this small city, many of them within walking distance of each other in the Vista Village and Brewery Trail area.
Don't-Miss Breweries
- Belching Beaver Brewery β The flagship. Known for their Peanut Butter Milk Stout (it's as good as it sounds). Their Tavern & Grill location on Vista Village Drive has a full food menu. About 8 minutes from Elevado Hills.
- Iron Fist Brewing β Great IPAs and a chill taproom. One of Vista's originals.
- Booze Brothers Brewing β Fun, unpretentious vibe. Rotating food trucks outside and solid beer across the board.
- Mother Earth Brew Co. β One of the larger Vista operations with a big taproom, seasonal releases, and a loyal local following.
- Wavelength Brewing β Smaller, newer, and worth seeking out for their creative recipes.
Pro tip: The breweries are clustered close enough that you can walk between 3-4 of them in an afternoon. Uber/Lyft back to the property is under $15.
ποΈ Downtown Vista β Where the Revival Is Happening
Vista Village β the heart of downtown β has gone through a real revival. What used to be a quiet strip is now lined with restaurants, antique shops, and weekend markets.
What to Check Out
- Vista Village Mercantile β Eclectic local shop with gifts, vintage finds, and San Diego-made goods
- Vista Farmers Market β Every Saturday morning on Main Street. Fresh produce, baked goods, local honey, and street food. One of the best in the county.
- Antique & Vintage Shopping β Several antique stores dot the downtown area. Great for a rainy-day browse or finding unique souvenirs.

πΏ Parks, Trails & Hidden Outdoor Gems
Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum
This one's genuinely unique β a working museum dedicated to antique farm equipment, blacksmithing, and early California agriculture. They host two major festivals a year (June and October) with live demonstrations, tractor parades, and craft booths. It's quirky, educational, and kids love it. About 10 minutes from the property.
Alta Vista Botanical Gardens
Tucked inside Brengle Terrace Park, these gardens are a peaceful escape with native plants, themed garden rooms, and walking paths. Free to visit, though donations are welcome. Perfect for a morning walk before the group's big plans kick in. About 8 minutes from Elevado Hills.
Brengle Terrace Park
The park itself is worth a visit β 53 acres with sports fields, picnic areas, playgrounds, and a rec center. Great if you've got a mixed group and need space for the kids to run while the adults relax.
Guajome Regional Park
About 12 minutes west, Guajome offers 557 acres of trails, a lake, and the historic Rancho Guajome Adobe (a California Historical Landmark). The trails are flat and easy β good for a casual group hike or morning jog.
π Live Shows, Water Parks & After-Dark Fun
Moonlight Amphitheatre
Vista's outdoor amphitheatre hosts a summer Broadway musical season (typically JuneβAugust) that's been running for over 80 years. It's a magical experience β professional-quality shows under the stars. Tickets sell fast, so check the schedule early if your trip overlaps. Located at Brengle Terrace Park, 8 minutes away.
The Wave Waterpark
Open seasonally (summer months), The Wave is a public waterpark in Vista with slides, a lazy river, and a wave pool. Good option if you want a break from the property pool and the kids need something bigger.
Drive-In Movie Night
The South Bay Drive-In in Imperial Beach is about 45 minutes south, but if you've never done a drive-in movie, it's worth the trip for the experience. Double features most nights.
